  • I witnessed the other night in-game that there's some serious drama going on between the various communities. I'll throw in five cents. QuackMasterDan admits he played for two hours and because of his experience in that time, he'll stick with the "more inferior implemented authentication system". I can bear witness,…
  • I tend to stick with the Goon Haven server usually because it's the most populated, but I'm hoping - nay - praying that some of the players I find there aren't representative of the rest of our player base. For instance, yesterday we were on Stonehenge, which I recall in Tribes 1 would even stack hopelessly against one…
  • TribesNext isn't the first attempt at bringing Tribes 2 back (but here's to hoping it's the most successful!), so having a list of all the projects, TribesNext included, that have tried to revive the game would count as useful information. WP had the links to the Tribes 1 downloads for a long time (that's how I first got…
  • Get caught in the.... CROSS FIRE!! (and i bet that's not the first time that joke's been made) Wouldn't see why Xfire wouldn't work with this newly patched Tribes, right?
  • Motion goes to vote. All in favor? (anticipating massive point fonts of "aye") -- I notice that there is a server listed that says newbie training, but it's almost always empty.
  • I am so trying to but I think they're being scared off by how much Tribes isn't any other, lesser, multiplayer game. Think we could like put some PR together and point out that even though it could take ages to learn *everything* in Tribes, you can still be a useful player, and have a blast, doing x or y or z? Like base…
  • So the client asks the master server for the list, master sends IPs and ports, and client pings and gets information from there? I think I found the server list I was thinking of in a support thread a page or two back. I assume I could just ping those directly with Windows and see if I get similar results? If anyone else…
  • OORAH! I can't believe the number of people that would tell me "you're still playing Tribes? That game is so ancient and dead"
  • We're certainly giving it a hell of a shot! Epic thanks to these fine people that are making it happen!
  • Well, just because WoW uses it doesn't really have any bearing here. However, considering the Tribes fanbase is pretty sizable, even a small 1.4MB patch download could potentially become a very, very big load under countless simultaneous downloaders. But even then, I have my doubts. WoW uses BitTorrent presumably because…
  • uh, we love you too? Oh wait, you're a Tribes 2 player in a community that some people would think should be long dead. Of course we love you!
  • Had a hunch that it would be an issue with Vista's handling of alt-tab (since I don't recall XP letting you alt-tab to desktop directly). I'll give winkey a try, since switching to desktop is also something I do to change the volume on Winamp.
  • Having a tribe or at least a single server with vets offering training to newbies is a supreme idea. When I was in on Tribes 1 a couple years ago (long after its prime, of course), there was one server running Shifter that was dedicated to training newbies. The admin there helped me figure out the strengths and weaknesses…
  • Like I said, not the best for practical practicing. ;) Besides, just imagine the beacon is a non-moving object like a turret or something. Just as useful. Or put the beacon on a turret and shoot at it.
  • It's probably not the best for actual practical practicing, but if you drop a targeting beacon on the side of a building or mountain or something, then jet up and down while aiming at it, I'm pretty sure the green line and crosshair extending from it would be the point you'd have to fire at in order for the disc to hit.…
  • Does anyone know what exception c00000005 is? Seems like it pops up in all kinds of circumstances from video crashes on startup to engine failures in game. Just kind of throwing this out there, since I have no idea how I would do it myself, but if we knew precisely what this exception that's not handled is supposed to…
  • In the offline mode, the game should start on the Training tab.
  • Bots will only get you so far, however. For one, they don't adapt practically at all, whereas live players might figure out that "oh, there's a mortar turret spamming that path, maybe I shouldn't take it anymore". Not to mention that bots probably won't ever stray outside the mission border unless they're dead set on…
  • Yes you can, it's under Graphics, I think. It's a drop down box that lists what the engine will render while you're in first person: player model (see your feets) and weapons, player model only, weapons only, or none of the above. There are also scripts out there that will selectively disable the sniper rifle and missile…
  • I started playing Tribes 1 only a couple years ago, joining the servers with the most players (which was usually only 20 or so, rarely any server had 30+). I've been on and off since. I tried the demo of Tribes 2, since I was hearing that since Tribes 1 was becoming "ancient", Tribes 2 was where it was at. I joined an…
