IIRC, wasn't skiing a sort of accidental discovery in T1? Like at some point someone figured out that bunny hopping down a slope would build up a bunch of speed at the end and it ended up a core mechanic for future games? In any event, Kryand sums it up quite well. Classic is faster than Base.

Just recently on Broadside I sniped someone in mid-air while they were flying away from the top of the Storm base and I was well inside Inferno's entrance. Right in the instant the map ended too. I think it was only about 450m but I was impressed at least.

From my testing, this forum's slim mode (the default one) fits a 500px wide image quite nicely. Haven't pulled out a pixel ruler and Firebug to see exactly how wide the space is. Contrary to your experience, I managed to run the entire single player campaign in one sitting without it crashing once. It takes forever to start, however.
