IP Error - Can't connect to Online servers

Today I had this error for the first time on any Online server I tried to join.......

IP Error - Your external address has not been set or is set incorrectly. Attempting to reset... with an OK tab below it.

Clicking on OK would bring up the same error. I copied my backup copies of serverprefs & clientprefs in to my base directory & overwrote the ones that were in there. I also tried shutting my PC off , then turned my fiber connection off & waited for 5 minutes before turning it back on. I then turned it back on & waited 5 minutes. After that, I turned on my PC & waited 5 minutes. I got the same error again when I tried to join an online server. I logged in successfully to the TribesNext auth server at all times I had the issue.

Now, here is a weird thing.... I started my dedicated offline bot server & joined it with my client using client offline mode. I connected to my dedicated server thru the client with no issues & I was just going to play a few minutes, when, lo & behold, andycap & eeor joined my dedicated offline server from the internet... Very weird !!!!

How can I fix this?

Are you running RC2a or still have the old t2csri.vl2 scripts running somehow? They should still work, but you might have conflicts if you're mixing a few patch versions together... I put this error message in the old versions if $IPv4::InetAddress hadn't yet been filled when joining a game, but it shouldn't really show up in the newer patch at all: the variable is still filled in for use on servers requiring script authentication, but if there's an issue getting it on startup, it just grabs it whenever the server list is queried.

Does it not show your IP address when you run echo($IPv4::InetAddress); ? If it's not applying at all, you can generally manually set $IPv4::InetAddress to whatever ipv4 address shows on a site like whatismyip.

The patch still removes the LAN class check even in offline mode for compatibility and supporting server hosts who don't care about accounts, so it's not unusual for "LAN" servers favourited by friends or stale listed on the master server to be joinable. The biggest difference with "online" servers is they'll send heartbeats to the master server, and authentication will usually be required.
