  • I dislike this fact as much as much or more than most people, but kryand and projectile are correct. There is very little room for vehicles in classic gameplay. The flaw with vehicles in classic is it takes too many people to be effective with them. Every single person you pull away to do a single task is a waste because…
  • What a coincidence my name is Wildcard too. On a serious note though I've never been completely away. I peek in every so often. I've just lost hope of aerial dogfight or base making any real comeback. Thing is with classic being the main game type I don't see it happening. I've thought about it a little and I believe part…
  • You seriously misunderstand the use of suicide in the game. Its not to rage someone...Its not to keep someone from getting a point. It started as a way to get back to base to start a new run when your current one was botched. Why spend 30 seconds trying to salvage a run that is going horribly wrong when you can respawn and…

  • I wish I had made more recordings back in the day. I only made a handful that I released to the public. I suppose there is no hope of ever finding them again though. There is one I am really hoping to find one day though. It was called "dws vs pub" very fun video of the good old days.
  • Well I would consider myself a shriking vet...in base at least. I was considered very good in classic, but for me it never felt the same. Anyway I have to disagree with the previous posters. I seriously don't mean to offend them, but I don't think their suggestions would help you much. Especially learning to shrike. The…
  • Of course I remember aerial dogfight. Keep waiting for it to make its return...It still hasn't has it? Just doesn't seem like the new tribes has much for an old pilot....
  • [quote author=TheOracle[xXx] link=topic=153.msg1870#msg1870 date=1231787538] Help me out here with the difference between base and classic. Base is how the game came originally, correct? And classic was someones attempt to change it by making my shrike slower so I couldn't outrun missiles and putting a chaingun on the…
  • So you would deny that classic has a zerg element to it that base did not? You would deny that classic is merely bringing tribes 1 gameplay to tribes 2(heck that was the sell of the dang thing). Those are the views I mentioned in my conversation and they are dead on. Sorry I didn't go into depth but it was a conversation…
  • Yes classic vehicles are so well balanced that beyond an easy way for the capper to get into position they were all but phased out. What about the tank? That was phased out. The havoc? In base that was actually useful. The bomber? Again in base it was useful. You said it yourself pretty much all teams had just 1 good…
  • Yeah that was a great pickup last night much more fun then your usual pub as there weren't 12 people waiting at a dead inv lol. That last match was damn close too. Did you manage to get in on that last night abstract?
  • Welcome to the tribes community. Guess you missed the old days of irc and the various tribes forums.

  • Lol alright alright. You want an idea...Heres one that has always been interesting to me, but has never become popular. Bases in the shape futuristic carriers. Always loved the idea...problem you'll have to face is how to get the map to flow correctly.
  • Hehe yeah thats what the orginal dogfight was. The mod was bones mod could be played in ctf or whatever and came with a couple custom gametypes including dogfight and a tank fighting kinda thing. Most people remember bones mod because of aerial dogfight and simply refer to it as such.
  • A dogfight mod? Don't we already have one of those? Anyhow I'd have to know more about said mod before throwing anything out for it.
  • I'd throw more ideas your way, but they wouldn't be popular with the community at all. The community doesn't seem to like maps with indoor anything but gens. It seems I'm only good for aerial dogfight mapping ideas in that way...I gave kryand a few ideas that led him to creating the best dogfight map ever seen.
  • By the way if anyone has any gameplay questions and want their ear talked off they can hit me up in pm or something. Most vets are well versed in all gameplay roles even if they didn't play them.
  • Oh I thought of a fond memory most people can relate to. First day of the game and ya hop into a shrike to promptly crash into the nearest mountain....Good times.
  • You know what might be interesting...Taking some tv maps and adapting them to tribes 2 play. I mean really while the game was a flop some of the maps weren't too bad. They would have to be enlarged of course, but hey you wanted ideas.
  • Alright I went ahead and registered.
  • Is that why a few of the pages have gibberish websites on them? Was wondering about that. Anyway I'm in the process of adding very rough basic tactics in the game introduction area.
  • I'm aware its short, but theres a number of reasons I left it so... 1. It was late.... 2. I started writing in a frustrated state. 3. To truely elaborate on need to know stuff would of taken a lot more time then that introduction. 4. I'm looking at this wiki right now.
  • Congrats on the kid and Glad to hear you made it back home man. Good to see ya gaming again too perhaps we will run into each other in game. You can laugh at my pathetic attempts to shrike these days.
  • See where you are losing me is the "creating a level playing field" comment. The maps are balanced. Ignoring that whole side of it though I don't see this happening. Not trying to be negative, but its the truth. The tribes community(and I dislike this fact, but it is a fact) prefers to play old well known maps over new…
  • Doing good man. Been gaming with my classic comp team ever since tribes died. How you been? if I recall right last time I saw you you were going off to join the military.
  • I know where you are coming from man, but trust me competition is only fun if you can compete. And tribes 2 competition is fierce....Cappers that can ski so well you have a split second to stop them or they are gone. Ho CONSTANTLY pouring into your base. LD that knows what they are doing and will body block you from the…
  • Oh by the way heres a tip from the early days in tribes. If you are having problems aiming with your mortar do a suicide run on the base. Place beacons on or under where you want to hit. Under you ask? If a turret is on the roof get inside and plant one on the ceiling for example. Pull out your mortar and boom nifty little…
  • Is it possible for a bomber to survive a shrike? That is a tricky question...In general the answer is going to be no. An even reasonably skilled shrike pilot will ALWAYS be able to take down a bomber. That being said though I did have some success fighting shrikes as a gunner in a bomber early in base. Its should be noted…
  • Lol we'll see about that. I dunno how well this is going to work, but that game I just got out of was FRUSTRATING.
  • What you are missing in your views about the bomber is with that 1 shrike in the air the chances of those 3 men getting there and doing damage are slim. If they do get there they are not making more then 1 pass. The damage that can be done with a bomber on one pass is extremely limited. Granted it does good damage, but as…
