That's why I also don't deploy turrets on my own. Theoretically if you deploy a turret, you should be responsible for its upkeep. I get a little alert that says if the flag has been mined. Same thing should happen for satchels. That'd be nice

There's some guide to being an Annoying Bastard (there's a link here somewhere) that has a very amusing strategy. Basically you get one guy to get into the enemy gen room with a clamp turret, and as soon as they set it up, you, a long way away and safe, take control of it and destroy the generators. When someone comes down…

If the focus is stolen from Tribes on Vista/Server 08 boxen (by popup or minimizing or alt-tab), it has a very, very high tendency to UE on return. I haven't yet found any method to bring Tribes back up that doesn't result in a UE of some kind. Now is this something that's at all possible to fix? Or avoid?

I satchel the flag only if there aren't already people on specific flag defense (like HoFs or people standing by) or turrets in the close area, so the detonation doesn't garner me any accidental TKs. I've done it on White Dwarf (think that's the one, green atmosphere and one base and bunker per side) and Archipelago since…

Now that's some pretty easy D ;D Think I'll have to play Carrier Strike a few more times to get it to grow on me. I think it's just the high water level and low flight ceiling that are turning me off a little; I like to have lots of possible roles on a map. Having a master list of the maps you're trying out and then having…

I figure with as well as my laptop runs Tribes at 1280x800 (specs in sig), and I don't think the Eee's specs are much lower or higher, I would guess Tribes would run pretty admirably. I've seen videos of people running Doom 3 on an Eee, let's see Tribes!

Probably many more than we realize, or want. Now if you could magically connect the login with these forums, such that making a Tribes account gives you an account (with same credentials) here, maybe that would encourage some of these newcomers to jump into the forums and help us make stuff better? Course, not sure you'd…

I haven't even paid attention to how much the shotgun takes from energy. Every time someone mentions the blaster fires multiple shots, we seem to all stop and play around with it for a while ;D I think for the Air Support 2 map it might be helpful (maybe) to lower the bases just a tad to the ground, so if one falls off the…

Suppose it depends on where that mortar turret (or any barrel) is. If it could do better with an AA barrel and on its own, I think you should go that route, as AA might lead targets better. But if the mortar is in an odd spot and you can suppress well (I'm thinking Riverdance here), manual control could be the best way to…

There's the one Air Support 2 or something map. Two flying bases, 3 vpads each, they're like 2km apart. I tend to spawn just off the base (think it's the Storm one) and fall to the ground, taking no damage, thankfully, because of the spawn shield thing. That one's sort of a problem. Carrier Strike looks interesting, but…

I think I'll have to jump into a Shifter server or download the mod and mess with bots. Certainly sounds a lot more fun than Shifter was in T1.
link=topic=431.msg4076#msg4076 date=1233160962] The sensor jammer pack is one of the most understimated tools. A tailgunner with one can effectively make a bomber invisible to missiles.
And that's why all TGs should be equipped with sensor jammers, or an ammo pack and have the…

It is perhaps because the team has no choice? As we've pointed out, the spawn animation doesn't change, and adds a fixed amount of time between one person getting a vehicle (and leaving) and the next person placing an order. I could turn the question back on you and ask why you're so great that we have to drop our plans of…

Likewise, anyone that votes #2 is copying me. That script from PJ's pack that automatically calls flag, with speed, is kinda nice. I wonder, is the speed it shows the speed you were going when you grabbed the flag, or at the moment it calls it? The latter would make more sense, I would think.

There is a "training" server in the list there somewhere, last I checked, but it's usually empty. Don't think any of us have taken the dedication of being a trainer there full-time yet. Goon Haven is a wonderful 64-man server that's usually the most populated (generally >40 players almost all the time), and I've noticed…

Someone who's spamming is using splash damage-heavy ordinance to suppress a small area, usually the flag or entrance to the enemy base. Cloakers are, well, cloaking. Watch for footprints or dust being kicked up, and fire something with splash that way to see if they get revealed.

Audiosurf is actually pretty good at that, especially if you get the good hardcore songs in there. What's scary is Tocatta and Fugue (yes, that organ one) is a very very intense ride. ;D

Yeah, command stas are now just the command circuit, default [C]. Turrets are listed under base assets or deployed assets, click little square to take control. Pretty sure those are the categories; I never take control of turrets.

Anyone else amused that we're ignoring the rant this thread started with and are now just rooting for one of five identical options? :P I see my lone vote for #2 stands...
-
Yeah... TKing would be recommended then... and teams could capture their own flag. And bases wouldn't be raped, they'd just change hands a lot. ;)

Bahaha, just looked at the length of the Winamp list I always have running... 191 songs, 14 hours, shuffle repeat. Yet somehow I always hear the same stuff... Will see if I can find some of the better stuff that didn't come as an album. Lots of Metallica (plus the symphony version and Apocalyptica covers), heaping helping…

Well like I said, the whole bit of putting the motion sensor and turret inside the forcefield was a little cheap. I could never figure out how to do that, but someone always managed to get them set up. Couple suicidal detpacks always did the trick. Wish you could blow up satchels that way...

I've noticed that trying to connect over Wifi is sort of hit or miss when it comes to successfully pinging and joining servers, and it's over a >70% signal strength network. It might just be your connection; try different connections or patch in directly with ethernet if possible.
-
I remember those from EliteRen in T1. Made base defense a lot easier (aside from the turret-in-forcefield griefs)

Mmkay... well anyway, current song in my playlist is... Artist: Origa Song: Player Opening theme for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnK4-I0Rwfs Thinking of doing a Tribes clip-video to it sometime.

After that one 47th Airborne or something map UEd me, I UEd when I tried to rejoin and the 32-man server disappeared from the list (other than faved).

So is this a "what song is on right now?" thing? And I love OOMPH! Rammstein hits a better chord (ba-dum-tish) with me, as does Blumchen (how's that for musical whiplash).

Targeting laser defaults to [L], so maybe it's just laziness that few people switch to it. Otherwise, I guess if someone spots a sniper in the hills they're a little more useful if they load up to go intercept instead of just painting it. As for why people don't target spammers or turrets or such, I guess it's partly…

Well I know Sanctuary (the two castle-like bases with open flags) only has repair packs out in the DMZ terrain. Can't think of any others where it's in a really bad place. For all the maps coming to mind (which admittedly isn't much right now), the packs are somewhere relatively close to the gens.
