• Never would have guessed it
• My philosophy on Team Damage is that it forces you to pay attention to where you're shooting, especially discouraging blind firing or simply spamming something. The problem is this isn't a hitscan, bullet-centric game. Almost everything (save ELF, lance, and chaingun, probably few others) has a fair amount of splash damage…
• On adding more bots: the effectiveness of the bots will be reduced as you add more and more. My experience with adding extra bots (having run a 32-bot server) is that there will come a point where the engine will run the AI for some bots, then run it for others, effectively stopping the bots that aren't being processed at…
• Usually I only notice lag if I'm joining when it's already 60+, at which point it's usually slideshowing and I'll wait for the player count to drop a bit before rejoining. Otherwise, once I'm on I never notice any lag. I can't think of any time I've seen 40+ people on screen at the same time; the maps are usually large…
• Not to mention dive bombing gives the bombardier a longer lock on the target
• Wow... looking at his other posts, he's got some serious issues with the inhabitants of Goon Haven. Like, more than any of us do... I think the gist of Sniper's post is he wants a good base server with no team damage and good mature players. Well... that's a bit of a paradox, since if Sniper joins, they won't all be good…
• I grew up in Arizona for a few years, so I'm rooting Cardinals.... Does this mean I have to duel to the death?
•
link=topic=380.msg3254#msg3254 date=1232736752] This comic reminds me of mbsocol http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2001/20010430h.gif
o.o i haven't laughed that hard in a long time XD
• Tribes 2 Manual is in ~/Manual/Tribes 2 Manual.pdf I was half expecting WiiMote to start having mbsocol wax on and wax off the flag As for repair duty, yeah it's not the most exciting, but if the gens go down while you're in the base, you'll probably be the closest one able to get them back up
• Nah I have a lot of grinding to do before I can use heavy armor
• Minnesota, north of St. Paul
• Took shadows down to a notch above disabled, only sliders maxed are terrain detail and interior detail (as there are never framerate issues inside). AA was never on (why make Tribes look smooth, you go too fast in combat to notice anyway), lighting was already pretty low (and I've heard of issues with vertex). As far as I…
• This mostly does that, it's just separate from this site for now :) http://www.maxogc.net/tribes/t2/max_t2_master.php
• I was about to make the fine wine reference :( I think the player count is great. 40-50 seems to be a good sweet spot for me, since 50+ starts to really lag things down.
• Well it didn't break anything, but trying to play with 32 bots (on a map I figured would be conducive to bot firefights) wasn't quite as enthralling as I thought. Nothing crashed, though it did run out of names for the bots past 25 or so (was running in a narrow skill range), and it seemed like a handful of bots would stop…
• While sitting out a map, I noticed a couple people using this tactic against the enemy vpad one night. On a less-chaotic server (like team play, though the tactic probably wouldn't fly there), enough observation would show that the bombs were following a straight trajectory down, so send a shrike up (once feasible) to take…
• *turns on an air conditioner, notices how apropos the thread title is now* Aside from the opinion-as-fact allegations flying around here, what I think is standing as the core of these arguments is that some maps are better than others. This falls in line with a certain "proverb" I recall, which goes "all hardware sucks,…
• Alternately, and probably better, make a shortcut to Tribes2.exe with the -prepbuild switch. It will delete the existing .dso files and recompile all the scripts. Once it finishes, Tribes gives me an error saying I have to use the "shortcuts provided" to start it (meaning to actually play you need -online or -nologin).…
• Well yeah :P If the admin is taking the effort to separate the blatant morons from the people just trying to play, then to hell with even teams. Get the morons on one, everyone on the other, and have at it :P As for a forum section specifically for creating tribes, I'm unsure how feasible that would be with this forum…
• *.cs.dso files are compiled scripts used in game. The actual, editable, script is just *.cs Most likely you'll have to get the script from the .vl2 resource file, which is just a renamed .zip that you can open directly with WinRAR or similar. The chaingun.cs file you are looking for would be in…
• I occasionally use satchel if I get near enemy defenses, otherwise I use it as a sort of human bomber, skiing so I can get altitude over the enemy, tossing the pack, waiting for it to activate, and, knowing there aren't any friendlies in the area, cause some explosions. But otherwise, satchel doesn't have much use in more…
• Securom code might be wigging out from not finding a CD? Or not having its usual hooks in the registry? That'd be my guess. Would setting compatibility mode to 98 work or help? I rarely, if ever, get UEs on either of my boxen, but I've had luck setting compatibility that far back on other games.
• Ah, plural. If anything I would add bots at the start of a map, probably CTF, since the AI tends to be ineffective at Siege maps anyway. Rabbit is interesting with lots of bots though. Thanks!
• No solutions yet, but Flyingbox was talking about surround here: http://www.tribesnext.com/forum/index.php?topic=321.0
• No they're running in nologin mode From what I gather, they're basically hosting from the LAN mode, but you can connect to them via IP.
• 3. .vl2 files go in ~/GameData/base/ The Launch -> Scripts reference is an options thing. I think it comes with Writer's support pack. Not sure what exact pack it is though.
• By no means am I calling your server a bad thing, though the people on it are usually the problem. I usually play more on it than any other server because I love the large amounts of players, even if the J. Random Publics make it hard to get anything done sometimes. I've never been dropped from it out of lag, nor have I…
• I think it would be funny if a server admin could identify who's being a real idiot, then forcibly switch the teams so the non-idiots are on one team, the idiots on the other, and just let the frustrated former teammates, and the former enemy, beat the everloving crap out of them. Yeah that opens up for serious admin…
• TribalOutpost has a ton of skins for vehicles and, well, everything. It might be there. Check the resource lists in the Mods section for skins. Could be there too.
