  • This was something I went over in my head a few nights ago, after writing my rant earlier in this thread... Tribes has probably the steepest learning curve of any FPS to date, and it goes without saying that we operate on a much different level than, say, Halo players. For our mastery (or our attempts at it) of the game…
  • Extreme textwall, here's what I gleaned from it. OP is new to the site, and this is the first post (clearly). OP has great ideas on how we can expand the T2 community. OP suggests that we all advertise TribesNext and Tribes 2 to everyone we know. If we do this, OP surmises that we will get enough people back to form…
  • Oh, I see what you did there. Dunno who you are or were, but welcome back?
  • Put simply: no.
  • At a quick glance, all I see is Classic servers... Is there a way for us to determine the "peak hours" of activity? I think part of it is some of us are at school or college or have a job and aren't around all day, naturally. To find the average hours of most activity would maybe be a good starting point. The cynic in me…
  • I put Winamp in the background with global hotkeys. Playlist is usually a random grabbag of all the stuff I have, but usually rock and trance, some ambient stuff (not too much or I'll fall asleep at the defense)
  • I'm using PJ's all in one and Faramir's all in one packs, and only rarely get the connection error... error. And it only happens on the server screen just as I've logged in. After maybe once, the error doesn't ever appear again. Never seen it in game.
  • Think we all know how that goes :P
  • Yeah as far as I can tell, that is exactly what the master server sends to the client. Can't wait to see what you can do with it, I love the Tribes 1 list you posted
  • Drivers for Nvidia are here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Alternately, Google search "Quadro FX Go1400 drivers". Something has to pop up somewhere.
  • Because ~/GameData/public.store does not have the password in plaintext. Nor does ~/GameData/private.store I'll go fishing in the other configuration and resource files, but so far I am under the impression that Tribes does not store the password in plaintext at all.
  • Oooookay, that is not what I was thinking of... First thing that comes to mind is a graphics card problem, specifically in handling of D3D. Was OpenGL the cause of your startup UEs? Have latest drivers?
  • Jumpy? Check the "Terrain Detail" slider under Graphics (I think). If I remember right, that slider controls how accurate the displayed terrain is to the actual height map the further you get from the player, most probably by modulating the number of polygons used to render the terrain. Without a wireframe view I can't…
  • I like to occasionally try Siege with bots, but am disappointed at the fact that no bot has ever successfully captured. I could probably pit the bots against each other and go observer, and they wouldn't get it. To do Siege effectively with live people, I think there would need to be some good practice beforehand. There…
  • Going fishing in the many resource files available to Tribes 2, I believe it should be possible to set the resolution directly in configuration files. I'm not sure if Tribes will reset the value out of its own initiative, but if you find and edit this line (in my case, reflecting a 1440x900 resolution), it should apply.…
  • Hmm, must have built back up in the last couple months. Maybe as a result of TribesNext, interest in Tribes overall has come back? And a list like that for Tribes 2 would be awesome
  • The last time I checked in on the Tribes 1 master list, which was about November last year, there were 20 people. Total. Over how many servers? We're getting more people on one server in Tribes 2 than the remaining Tribes 1 servers have combined (and I'm not referring to the Goons here, the Branzone server is seeing a good…
  • Even though this is a thank you thread, and I don't think any number of thank you threads will effectively communicate how grateful we players are that TribesNext is bringing T2 back, I feel almost disappointed that this thread wasn't complaining about Goon Haven or any other idiot-overloaded server.
  • umm... all routers only let you forward ports to one local IP at a time as far as I know, you'll only have to open ports on the router if you're hosting, not for regular play, and if you're hosting you should theoretically be only doing that from one computer behind the router anyway make sure port 28000 is forwarded to…
  • Does the pack make use of Writer's Scripts tab? Or have an entry on the Launch menu?
  • IP addresses will change each time you connect to the ISP. For dialup, this means that you'll have a different external IP each dial in. For cable, the IP will only change if you are disconnected from the ISP for a specific length of time. Cable IP changes have to do with the DNS refresh interval, I think it's like 15…
  • There is a line between using the packs for comedic effect and just being an obnoxious tard. I for one love the exchanges that are possible with the canned messages already in the game. "How's it feel to BURN!!" "Awesome!" and etc. So far I've only really heard extra voices get spammed between missions, which, in my…
  • It could just be a remaining graphical bug in 7 that should, in theory, be hammered out by RTM.
  • The standard is 28000, not 25001?
  • I replaced the mortar smoke with a blue-green texture, but it seems only mortar turrets got modified, since player-fired mortars are still the same color as always. It might be possible that player-fired mortars use a slightly different naming scheme than turrets, but then maybe not. I'd say keep experimenting and maybe…
  • I've noticed that graphics changes aren't quite being pulled into the game correctly in their .vl2 form. But, if you open the .vl2 files with something like WinRAR, you can extract the folder within right to the GameData/base/ folder and it'll suddenly work fine.
  • Think someone posted them in General Discussion
  • On a server with Team Damage enabled, I understand that there are going to be some TKs. I'm not immune from it; comes with lots of weapons with splash damage, and especially when frantically trying to defend the base from that one light that managed to get in. We tend to kill each other more than we effectively kill an…
  • I googled around (though other people might go "well, duh" at this), and found that the Goon Haven server is run by SomethingAwful forumites, which likely explains the increasingly 4chan-like immaturity building up there.
