Stabilisation for vehicles

Is it possible to have tank or bomber turret stabilizated?

Idea is like on modern tanks and other turrets that vehicle speed and movement does not affect the gunners view.

  • Where in hell did you get the idea that modern tank turrets aren't affected by the movement of the tank?

You did not know that tanks and many other armored vehicles (APC's etc) does have stablisation system for gunners so they can shoot exactly to the target, while the vehicle is moving on rough terrain. Without the movement affecting the shooting?

If you did not yet understand the stabilisation meaning, watch those and keep on eye how the tanks barrel stays still on the target while the body wobble on all axis.

  • I'm proud of you Scholtz. For once you actually came back to a thread to defend your views when I challenged them. Usually you just run off because you know you're wrong. I guess this time it helped that your views actually had a basis in fact, but still, it's a big step up!

I can not be proud of you because you have made totally wrong conclusions. I give you a tip. I have not be here more than few times and so on I have not followed any threads where I have posted.
  • While this is mathematically simple to accomplish, rotation of player controlled objects is extremely difficult to accomplish on the server side. That data is not sent over the remote procedure interface, and there is no real way to do it on the server side runs prediction (so it would be jittery at best).

Amusingly, though, this would be extremely easy to do as a client side hack.

And it really is needed to be server-side only, it could not be done client side at all?

Because after all it would be just correcting for player the tank movement so player has easier aiming. But would it look very weird from other players then as you said?
  • That's not what I said.

You said it would be jittery at best, so would it look like that for other players as well?
  • He's saying it would be very difficult to do server-side (or rather that the server wouldn't take it too well), and as a result it would be jittery for the player. He also went on to say that it would be a fairly simple client-side hack, though I don't think that's what you're after.

And I asked would it look bad for other players on server if it would be either one (server- or client-side). The client-side script would not matter, it would just be downloadable mod then.
  • wonder if one could simulate a gyrocompass in torque script
