  • Glad to hear you gave it a try. RS is correct. When I signed up for the Legends forums years ago I was involved with a clan named *XPF*. As clans generally go it faded off into history so I reverted back to my old player name which was based on my old Tribes 1 clan (Low Ping Bastards). I sign all my mapping efforts with…
  • Got me, I haven't a clue what a "Tribes 2 Variant Mod" is....nor do I even care. No, I don't know....but apparently you do. Guess that makes Tribes 1 a "variant also.....and about a zillion other games. At this point there is no vehicle support, maybe later. (not that I find players flying around in a 1 vs 1 game all that…
  • Thank you! Much appreciated. Many of the textures are the same ones used with "Legends" and are mostly by "Evil Lair", a very well known texture artist and mapper from the Quake community. There are textures by other authors also and if you dig into the vl2 (zip) file you will find a list of credits. Most of the Interiors…
  • Even though it will be a while before I release the second beta of the BTMappack for Tribes 2 I have begun work on it and have some of the maps running at my server that will be a part of it. My focus will be on improving the original list of maps already released in the first beta and adding several maps that are by…
  • Continuing on with the previous post. Here is a rundown of the remaining maps in the BTMappackt2-b1 version. with some pics of the maps. 6. IceRidgeBTt1 A remake of the map from Tribes 1. All models are mine, as is the fogged in skybox. 7. RaindanceBTt1 A remake of the map from Tribes 1. All models are by me as is the…
  • Warning! Blatant pandering ahead! 8) In reviewing download numbers for this mappack over at filefront I find that there have been a total of.......5 downloads since I released it. ( Thanks Mom ;) ) In an effort to perhaps break through that number ceiling and hit maybe as many as 6....or even 7 (hold on to yer hat Martha!)…
  • Tribes 1: approx 3 seconds Tribes 2: approx 3 seconds Legends (old version): approx 5 seconds Legends (unreleased version): approx 5 seconds My customized Legends server: approx 8 seconds Or what? You gonna grab your torch and pitchfork and come burn me out? (blasphemy! Non believer! Burn him at the stake!) There may have…
  • Yes it does. It creates a console.log for client and server. There was a simple stats system created by a member of the community a while back, "Lnxusr". Not sure if he borrowed from something else or knocked it together himself. As often happens he drifted off and his code is likely MIA now. Its a missing feature in…
  • To be clear, Legends has never implemented my "changes". I was not involved with the development of the game nor did I have any power to implement my "changes". The way the game plays is the decision of the Legends Dev Team and always has been. I have in the past never had any influence in their decisions. The only area I…
  • I have to agree. If the game turns out to be as described here it won't last very long past its initial release excitement. The early PC games recognized you have to build a community in more ways than just sales. You build a community by allowing a certain amount of "freedom" to fans. The game as described appears to…
  • There is also "Tribes 1", which is still alive if you update your master servers. Plays in Windows and Linux thru Wine. And also "Legends" (http://www.legendsthegame.net) which has an update in the pipes that should hit fairly soon. Plays in both Windows and Linux (natively) Pics in post.…
  • Thanks for pointing that out. I am aware of it and tried all the options listed there plus some from a couple other spawngraph tutorials. So far no luck. I also have a little script add on that allows you to customize the spawngraphs. If I can't get the spawngraphs to build the traditional way I may have to focus on that…
  • I have released the first beta version of the BTMappack for Tribes2. It can be downloaded from the following address: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20278279/BTMappackT2_b1_vl2 Some things to keep in mind about this first version: 1. It IS a beta version. The maps are in a test state and not everything is done. Even so…
  • :-X :o ::)
  • Just to add the this thread a bit of info that might help those interested in running a server with Linux. I have a TribesNext server up in the masterlist now that is running on Linux using Wine. It is called BearTown Tribes2. The version of Linux being used is Debian Squeeze and the version of Wine being used is the…
  • I completely understand all of the restrictions. They are obvious vectors for security and cheating issues. Are you saying that ALL sounds will be blocked or will you be recognizing custom map sounds as allowed? The idea of a working map downloads system is LONG overdue in Tribes. Legends, a sister Tribes like Torque based…
  • Thanks Thyth. Your comments got me looking in the right direction. It turned out to be something really unusual. After reading your comments I remembered that I had seen a few devices not pick up DNS properly from my firewall in the past. Linux systems seem to have no problem but once in a while I have run across a system…
  • Thanks for all the effort there Blakhart. I took a look at the site link. It serves as an example of what I meant by so much disappearing from the net. Its from the Wayback Machine. Anyway I do appreciate the effort but perhaps I should have mentioned I have been running game servers for years, just not Tribes 2. The site…
  • Very well described. As it sounds with Tribes2VET I also go back to the beginnings of Tribes 1. I ran a very early server for Tribes 1 for a couple of years. I was transitioning to Linux during that period and eventually bought the LokiGames Linux version of Tribes 2. Even though it was still basically Tribes I didn't care…
  • Just to let anyone know who is following this thread. I recently updated Wine to the latest release, 1.2, and so far no problems at all on Linux. I did see some problems with the rc versions just before this but this full version has worked flawlessly. Just spent about an hour and a half playing with no crashes.
  • I have something like this working for servers in Legends. I was prompted to find a way to make this happen after one too many foul mouthed teeny bopper and one particularly rude voice/chat pack started making the rounds in Legends. I suppose it could be modified for Tribes 2 since Legends is so close under the hood to…
  • Sorry to hear it did not work for you as well as it did for me. I update my Wine version with every new release so I will post back how my copy is doing. In the past I have seen numerous regressions and later fixes as Wine has progressed so I expect occasional issues as I update. (Thanks to Thyth for making the effort at…
  • I have tried this method and it worked for me. Other than some issues during the initial log in the game has been stable in Linux....so far. :) See my post at the Legends forums regarding this. http://legendsthegame.net/forums/showpost.php?p=24501&postcount=3 Main thread link.…
