Problem w' an admin

So I was playing on the goons server a little while ago and an admin named terotos stopped a vote kick. I tried asking him why he did it and he said it was because I had started a couple of other vote kicks (which was true). Each time I initiated a vote kick - I explained myself in chat. (Perhaps if Terotos was watching chat he'd know the reason for the vote kick.) Anyhow - an individual named frag2win was tking my bomber by dropping bombs as I was trying to get my TG to switch to a sj pack.

I tried explaining to Terotos the reason for the vote kick. Instead of listening to me - he told me I was parking my bomber on teh vpad (I wasn't - I've played long enough to know that's bad etiquite) and told me I was making it hard for other people to play.

Ask anybody who knows me (Rufus etc.) and they will tell you I don't go around looking for trouble. I like playing as much as the next guy. I do have a problem when admins who assume they know what is going on start calling me names on the server and making things up.

I have to say I'm disappointed in Terotos's performance as an admin. Perhaps he was having an off day, but that kind of behavior doesn't make me want to stick around... :/

I was annoyed because no one else seemed to be having a problem. I always saw you hanging around the vehicle pad. You were spamming about people standing on other people's heads, etc.

All very annoying. Sometimes I want to play the game too. I was playing LoF and HoF tonight (two positions I don't really play except an occasional PUB). If I have to keep looking to see what problem you are having now, I miss the entire game.

If you have a problem with a player, tell an admin in chat. The admin can then:
    A. Warn/Kick/Ban the player
    B. Observe the player
    C. Inform you that whatever was going on is not a problem.

Now if you want to upload a demo with the offending footage from this guy, go ahead. I keep telling people to have recordings.

In general I dislike kick votes, especially on big servers like Goons. They tend to involve people wildly pressing yes/no without knowing what is going on (as evidenced by the tons of complaints about people being kicked for nothing). It is my habit to stop them when I notice them and look into the problem or warn the vote starter if there wasn't a problem.

In your case, your hyper-ventilating just further irritated me.

Spamming about vehicles. Sure the guy wasn't the greatest player ever (look at his ping, how could he be?), but the spamming about the vehicle was annoying other people too.
  • Sorry - just realized this is the wrong forum. I'll delete the thread if the admins think that's appropriate...
  • The guy that runs Goon Haven is a moderator here, so I'm sure he'll be able to handle it.
  • in before the close - no sense in waiting for a good TG unless you know the guy. Just TG yourself. I'd also like to take this time to say that Smokescreen is a badass pilot.

Good point. I often do. :) I'll keep an eye out for him. :) Traveler is pretty bad-ass too. :)

I don't see the problem? I'm politely asking him to get out...
  • don't waste your time asking a newbie to hop out. Either sit still for a bit until they get bored and bail, ditch the bomber and spawn a new one, or just take them for the ride of their life.
  • Haha...I guess the optimist in me holds out hope that folks are watching chat. I typically see about a 50% success rate when asking people to get out. :)

  • Hopefully, some pilot-ejector code will be implemented soon. Until then, you'll have to deal...
  • Hope it's not closing time already!!

I'm less interested in the chat hud chatter than the action in game!

I don't see how oobie was offending anyone, he wasn't rude, who cares if he types in the chathud as long as he isn't blocking the v-pad? :-\

Oh he wasn't. I was in-game at the time. Teratos was the one being rude, pissed off, and generally being a very low-quality admin.
  • Hopefully, some pilot-ejector code will be implemented soon. Until then, you'll have to deal...

Man I've been waiting for this since '01.
  • teratos seems to me oobie did as you said and told you he was having a problem with a player but you did neither a,b,or c as you mentioned above.I understand wanting to play the game but come what does it take maybe a few minutes at most to warn or observe a player in a thirty minute map on goons.

being an admin is no glamor job been one in a few games and it takes a thick skin. Some people may go out of there way just to piss you off it comes with the job.I dont know if you have been an admin before and if you have you know this.
Maybe you were having a bad day who knows you should not take it out on the players.Best advice step away from the game for a bit cool down come back later.

there is one now we have it at hv it ejects people and locks vehicles.

It's a fabulous script. I doubt Wembly would require much arm twisting.

Quit trying to cast me in a bad light man. I'm not looking for trouble. I'm here to play the game and have fun. (I don't hold grudges either.) Looking forward to feeding you a few disks in game. ;)
You just defamed me on two forums after picking a fight in-game because I ended your vehicle tantrum. I'll let this be my final defense on the subject: a summary as I see events, my thoughts on the situation, and a transcript containing exact quotes from in game.

    My Summary:
    • I join the server to see you setting vpad policy for everyone else. (and an inefficient policy at that)
    • You start a vote to kick
    • You're asking for a crew in chat (if you want to be picky about the crew, you shouldn't put out open calls)
    • Someone is chaingunning your bomber (I guess you had angered someone else already)
    • NEXT MAP
    • Asking for crew followed by spamming for player to get out
    • More asking for crew followed by spamming for people to get out
    • I see your bomber floating around our base area
    • Another vote to kick from you for a different player
    • I stop vote
    • I ask why you were voting (Note you lied about this and said I didn't try to find out/ask), you respond TKing. I and another player tell you to get off the vpad.
    • You begin calling people names (I thought I did this? I see honesty isn't a strong point here.)

My problem is that you think you own the vpad/bombers, and that what you want is the law for everyone else. You seem to think that you can order other players around, and if they don't play the game the way you want, they should be kicked.

Now, there are competition players that think this way, and I don't kick the "vehicle llamas" - they would classify you as such - when they request it in game or in #lastgasp.
Why should I kick, or allow players to be kicked when you are doing the same?

And even worse, all the time you spend spamming players to get out, our team is down at least two, maybe three players. This isn't fair to everyone else on our team. We are trying to play, and it looks like we have the same number of players as the other team, but really we have 2 or 3 sitting in a bomber talking to each other DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO HELP. Yet you think I should kick the other guy in the bomber?

yea this was the best when MV was at its height/nothing else was around. A number was designated to a position and the pilot could press that and kick a player out of the vehicle. Greatest thing for getting the message out to those newbies and if u wanted to run with your specific group of guys and no one else. And to teratos, there have been a rash of guys that come in and just start blowing their own shit up along with friendly players, so i doubt this guy oobie is lying about this particluar situation. Personally I would just tk them back. The few times I have done this they get the point. Who knows maybe they dont know that green is Friend.. But i doubt it. I think tk is a better solution if done in the right way because 99% of these guys that are doing this sort of thing ( in my case satcheling our invs/vehicle pad) they dont read the chat so telling them to stop doesnt work. if they realize for a couple times when they spawn that some guy isnt going to let them live long, they stop doing those stupid things and think. Hmm maybe i should stop satcheling my invs. i wont get to play anymore here because someone doesnt like it. has worked for me everytime so far. And i didnt even waste an admins time about it.
  • Was it stuff like this that made ppl stop playing t2 or was it the clans and/or competition?
  • I'm sorry to have embarrassed you and the other admins.

I feel it would be best if I didn't do anymore admining.
If you're being sincere, I applaude you. Maybe you'll carry through with your words.
Was it stuff like this that made ppl stop playing t2 or was it the clans and/or competition?
I think a combination of both. Tribes 2 community always seemed to have terrible attitude, whether it's the stupid pubbies or the competition people who are trying to dictate how the game should or should not be. Incompetent admins is just a part of that.
  • teratos thats what might be best for you in the long run.Hell I totally understand just wanting to play the game. Being an admin doesnt allow you that pleasure all the time. Not the end of the world ya know live and learn.
  • Being a admin is easy lol, don't make it sound tought. All you have to do is enjoy the game, once someone try's to kick, just ask why and get other people to support the kick. Ask the person being kicked if it's true, and if it is kick. It's not hard, also teamkills are shown in the chat hud, so if you see a teamkill by same person alot well you warn them then kick.
  • edited March 2009
its not easy if you wanna just play the game.So your telling me in a full 64 man server with TD on you sit there and watch every teamkill that pops up? Sometimes though its not the easiest job in the world.maybe your flying or in the middle of bombing, driving a tank or trying to cap the flag for your team, then you havta go to the menu find the player warn them or observe them listen to the complaints it can sometimes spoil your fun.I have seen many an admin come and go for just this reason.thats why we have posts like this.Yes being an admin is not hard but being a good admin is not easy.
  • It does get tough if you're the lone judge of a dispute and you want to be fair. Some people are naturals at it, while others aren't.
It isn't always just a guy who decided to tk a few people. Sometimes, you have two established members in a dispute who both have a point. So yeah, it can get hard sometimes.
  • For your information I have been in servers maybe not 64 but around 40 where I was admining. It wasen't bad at all. I didn't mind it and people liked the way it was running.
  • Natural talent + skills & knowledge + passion & dedication ---=makes=---> a competent admin

Actually, this should be the requirement for being an admin.

The thing is most people don't understand even the basic principles of adminning and managing, so they think it's easy or less complicated than it really is.

You only need to have a rational mind and be mildly perceptive to be a barely acceptable admin. A replaceable admin that anyone else can be.

But, to be a great admin, you need to already be the right type of person. For those who aren't, they at least need to be eager to learn, then you can easily take them under your wings.
