Here's a screen shot tour of the installation of Tribes 2, and our patch.

Firstly, go to our download page. Download the full unpatched version of the game (tribes2_gsi.exe), and the TribesNext patch (TribesNext_rc1.exe).

Firstly, double click on the tribes2_gsi.exe installer and install Tribes 2. You will probably want to skip the offers from Vivendi, the offers to register the game, the DirectX 8 installation. Make sure you don't run the game after the installer. These steps are shown from screen shots 1 to 12.

After Tribes 2 is installed, double click on the TribesNext patch installer. Read through the license agreement, accept it, make sure the patch installer has found the Tribes 2 installation, then apply the patch. These steps are shown from screenshots 13 to 15.

You're done now. You can now launch the game from the standard shortcuts provided by the original game installer, create an account, and start playing!

You should add "DefenseTurret" so that the people can also play Arena..Cuz without DefenseTurret..You can't play Arena.
That's also a heads up to the TribesNext DL package.
Defense Turret is incompatible with the executable modifications made for the TribesNext patch, but for similar reasons, memory patching hacks like HM2 are incompatible as well (instant game crash).

Defense Turret... also... doesn't actually work. There is a bug in the implementation of dt_serv.cs that doesn't actually kick tainted clients, assuming they can initialize their hack. DT also contains two sets of hard coded "backdoor" challenge responses that always say the client is not cheating. If you know at least one of the sets of backdoor codes, you can write a script to emulate DT.

I've played on arena servers using my DT emulator script several times. Without fixing the DT server source code (nice and locked up in a DSO), you can't tell the difference between am emulated DT client using the backdoor codes and the real DT client.

Assuming you haven't done a significant amount of drive activity, you could undelete your directory.

I hope you plan to link to us, rather than slap a Necrosis sticker on the side of a pre-patched installer. If you distribute a pre-patched version of the game, we cannot permit you to link to it from this forum, nor can we endorse it.

There are complex legal reasons for this, but it can be succinctly summarized as such: while we are free to reverse engineer a system and provide tools for compatibility, we do NOT have legal clearance to distribute a derivative work. Now, before a non-lawyer thinks there is a problem: distribution of an unauthorized derivative work is different than providing a tool that automatically patches the game when run (since the tool is not a derivative work any more than a hex editor, even if it is more specialized).

At launch we will distribute the original GameSpy Installer that was put on FilePlanet in 2004 as part of the re-release. A separate (but very small) patcher will be our non-derivative work deliverable. Keeping them separate is critical to keeping us in the DMCA-1201f legal safe harbor.

This will be a moot point in a couple of weeks anyway, as we are really close to release.

In my opinion, it would be best to leave the game be until our patch is ready.

Seems like you just packaged the offline-internet-mode patch with Rain's alternate server listing, and a bunch of maps and voicepacks. I also notice that you don't credit Rain, or provide any links to his project site. That's not very respectful.

Congratulations on prepackaging a set of capabilities that we've already had for about a year; without proper authentication, it isn't usable for building a new community.

Wait for us to finish the TribesNext patch. We're really close now.

There is no solid release date. It will be done when it is done.

I don't know where you're getting the impression that we appear to be hard at work. I'm kicking back with a martini and looking forward to a relaxing Thanksgiving.

If you're interested in up-to-the-minute status reports, join us in the IRC channel #[email protected] -- I'm in there most of the time. If I'm doing something, I usually send a message or two into the channel explaining what I'm starting/finishing/having trouble with/etc..

Otherwise, I post status updates on The-Construct.net forum, for the slightly less technically inclined crowd.

I'm extremely busy for the next 3 weeks, so don't count on a release within that time period.

And to those of you complaining about how it is taking "forever" to get this system online, consider the alternative: no new master server system.
